PVC is widely used as the most common plastic material for earphone cables due to its soft and comfortable hand feel, and its low cost. However, in recent years, as the industry's demands for environmental protection have become increasingly stringent, especially from some well-known earphone cable material buyers, who require products to be halogen-free, free from 16P-phenylenediamine, non-phenol NP, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), traditional PVC materials have found it difficult to meet these substance testing standards. TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) materials, in addition to having properties similar to PVC in terms of hand feel, can meet the environmental protection standards set by the European Union for halogens, 16P-phenylenediamine, non-phenol NP, and PAHs. Therefore, the application of TPE eco-friendly materials in the earphone cable industry has become more widespread in recent years.
TPE material used for extruding the outer sheath of earphone cables mainly requires excellent smoothness, tensile strength, and coloring properties: the pigment is evenly dispersed, there are no flow marks or discoloration, and there are specific requirements for the adhesion between the material and the core wire. Therefore, the formulation and properties of TPE material used for producing extruded earphone cables, especially those of higher-end models, are quite particular. In terms of hardness, earphone cable materials generally use TPE material with a Shore A hardness of 65~80 degrees. The appearance of the earphone cable outer sheath can be either glossy or matte (dull).
After nearly five years of full-scale research and development, the R&D center of xinzhongrun Plastic Co., Ltd. has now maturely applied its TPE sandblasted material in the field of earphone cable materials, which can be used on well-known brands such as Apple or Samsung Xiaomi. There are halogen-free flame retardant grade HB-V0 and non-flame retardant grades available, meeting EU environmental protection and other testing standards.
