Features of PA12 (China Brand)

  • Nylon 12 is a linear, semi-crystalline to crystalline thermoplastic material derived from butadiene. Its properties are similar to those of nylon 11, but the crystal structure is different. It has a low relative density of only 1.02, making it the smallest in the nylon series;

  • It has a low water absorption rate and good dimensional stability; excellent low-temperature resistance, up to -70°C;

  • It has a low melting point, ranging from 170 to 180°C, making it easy to process with a wide range of molding temperatures; it has good flexibility, chemical stability, oil resistance, and wear resistance, and is also an inherently flame-retardant material;

  • The long-term use temperature is 80°C (which can reach 90°C after heat treatment), it can work at 100°C for a long time in oil, and its long-term working temperature in inert gases is 110°C;

  • It can be processed into monofilaments, films, sheets, rods, profiles by injection molding, extrusion, etc., and powder can be processed using methods such as fluidized bed impregnation, electrostatic painting, rotational molding, etc., especially suitable for coating and spraying on metal surfaces;

  • Nylon 12 is a very good electrical insulator and like other polyamides, does not affect its insulation performance due to moisture. It has good impact resistance and chemical stability;

  • The viscosity of nylon 12 mainly depends on humidity, temperature, and storage time;

  • It has very good flowability. The shrinkage rate is between 0.5% and 2%, which mainly depends on the type of material, wall thickness, and other processing conditions;

  • There are many improved varieties of nylon 12 in terms of plasticization and reinforcement characteristics. Compared to PA6 and PA66, these materials have lower melting points and densities, and very high moisture regain rates. Nylon 12 is not resistant to strong oxidizing acids.



Injection Molding Process of PA12 (China Brand)

  • Drying Treatment: The humidity should be below 0.1% before processing. If the material is stored in the air, it is recommended to dry it in a hot air at 85°C for 4-5 hours. If the material is stored in a sealed container, then it can be used directly after 3 hours of temperature equilibrium.

  • Melting Temperature: 240-300°C; do not exceed 310°C for general properties materials, and do not exceed 270°C for flame retardant materials.

  • Mold Temperature: For unreinforced materials, it should be between 30-40°C, for thin-walled or large area components, it should be between 80-90°C, and for reinforced materials, it should be between 90-100°C. Increasing the temperature will increase the crystallinity of the material. Precisely controlling the mold temperature is very important for PA12.

  • Injection Pressure: Up to 1000 bar (it is recommended to use low injection pressure and high melting temperature).

  • Injection Speed: High speed (better for materials with glass additives).

  • Runner and Gate: For unadditive materials, due to the low viscosity of the material, the diameter of the runner should be around 30mm. For reinforced materials, a larger runner diameter of 5-8mm is required. The shape of the runner should be entirely circular. The gate should be as short as possible. Various forms of gates can be used. Large plastic parts should not use small gates to avoid excessive pressure on the part or too much shrinkage. The thickness of the gate should ideally match the thickness of the part. If an immersion gate is used, the minimum diameter should be 0.8mm. Hot runner molds are very effective but require precise temperature control to prevent leakage or solidification of the material at the nozzle. If using a hot runner, the size of the gate should be smaller than that of a cold runner.

Mainly used for water meters and other commercial equipment, optical fibers, cable sheaths, mechanical cams, automobiles, sliding mechanisms, bearings, etc. It is also used for: automotive fuel delivery pipes, automotive brake hoses, air conditioning pipes, compressed air equipment hoses, industrial high-pressure hydraulic pipes, quick couplings, anti-lock braking system spindles of automobiles, precision gears, camshafts, and bearing slides, electrostatic removal rollers of photocopiers, antistatic capacitors and IC chip guides, fiber optic sheaths, transparent tubing, self-adhesive wire paint, sound-absorbing gears, sports shoes soles, cable fasteners, tennis racket cord fasteners, and many other aspects.
